Steelers RB Najee Harris exits Monday night win with abdomen injury

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris exited Monday night's win over the Indianapolis Colts due to an abdominal injury, but head coach Mike Tomlin had no further updates other than his second-year player was being evaluated

Harris went to the locker room just prior to halftime, with the announcement that he would not return to the game coming just after the break.

Harris had been in and out of the medical tent earlier in the game, but between those visits had 10 rushing attempts for 35 yards before being ruled out. That included a 6-yard run in the second quarter for Pittsburgh's first touchdown of the night.

"He's being evaluated, so I don't know the extent of that," Tomlin said of Harris' injury after the game. "I'm sure we'll visit again tomorrow, and I'll have more information for you there."

The Steelers had already ruled out No. 2 RB Jaylen Warren ahead of Monday's game due to a hamstring injury, meaning that with Harris' exit from the game, Pittsburgh was playing without its top two running backs.

In Harris' absence, the Steelers utilized Benny Snell, who had previously appeared almost exclusively in special teams situations, and Anthony McFarland Jr., who was making his first appearance of the season after being called up as a game-day elevation in anticipation of Warren's absence. Snell finished with 62 rushing yards and a TD on 12 attempts, and McFarland had 30 yards on six rushes.

"I'm just appreciative of both guys' efforts, man. Sometimes you get battlefield-promoted," Tomlin said. "A guy like Benny Snell became a central part of what we were doing offensively, and he was still on punt team. ... And (McFarland) is always a guy that's always working and waiting for his opportunity ... I just thought he was an asset to us."
