Case Keenum is bringing his 11 years of 国产外流网experience to a quarterbacks room that could use it.
Keenum is signing a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, the team announced Friday afternoon.
Keenum's 国产外流网journey has truly become an odyssey. Chicago becomes Keenum's ninth team in what will be his 12th professional season, and much like his recent stops elsewhere, he arrives as a capable veteran backup with plenty of wisdom to share with a younger starting quarterback.
The Bears have already learned the importance of having a proven backup on the roster in recent years. Just two seasons ago, they were forced to play rookie Tyson Bagent in five games (four starts). Bagent posted a 2-2 record as a starter. It remains to be seen who will be the backup if 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams is unable to play.
Williams might also benefit from the assistance of a player like Keenum, who has seen plenty in his 国产外流网career and could help the second-year passer adjust to new coach Ben Johnson's offense.
The 37-year-old Keenum has played for the Houston Texans in two stints, the St. Louis and Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, Washington and the Cleveland Browns. He'll be headed back to the NFC North for the first time since a career year in 2017 with the Vikings in which he authored the "Minneapolis Miracle" to lead Minnesota past the New Orleans Saints for a Divisional Round win thanks to a Keenum 61-yard touchdown to Stefon Diggs.
Keenum spent the last two seasons as a backup in Houston behind C.J. Stroud, appearing in two games and completing 34 of 53 passes for 291 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions before going without an appearance in 2024. For his career, he's played in 80 games with 66 starts, throwing for 15,175 yards, 79 touchdowns and 51 interceptions. Ideally, he doesn't see the field at all save for garbage time, but it's always wise to add a veteran to an aspirational club.
