No. 10 overall pick J.J. McCarthy inking rookie deal with Vikings

Minnesota's chosen quarterback of the future is under contract.

J.J. McCarthy has agreed to terms with the Minnesota Vikings on his rookie deal, 国产外流网Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Friday.

A 2023 College Football Playoff national champion and 2024 Rose Bowl MVP, the University of Michigan's McCarthy joined the Vikings as one of a record-tying six quarterbacks selected in the first round of the 2024 国产外流网Draft. The 10th-overall pick was the last of the half-dozen to sign on the dotted line, following Chicago's Caleb Williams, Washington's Jayden Daniels, New England's Drake Maye, Atlanta's Michael Penix Jr. and Denver's Bo Nix.

Only two remaining first-round selections are unsigned: McCarthy's new teammate, No. 17 overall pick Dallas Turner, and No. 18 selection Amarius Mims of the Cincinnati Bengals.

McCarthy compiled a wildly successful collegiate career at Michigan, posting a 27-1 record in two seasons spent as a full-time starter for the Wolverines, including two wins over rival Ohio State, two College Football Playoff appearances, and a career-closing national title game triumph over Washington. He's entering camp penciled in as the backup behind veteran Sam Darnold, but is expected to take over before long as the Vikings' planned successor to Kirk Cousins.

With McCarthy officially under contract, he can get to work on realizing the Vikings' plan.

Vikings rookies report to training camp on Sunday.
