The Seattle Seahawks looked to an NFC foe to find their next offensive coordinator.
The Seahawks are hiring Saints assistant Klint Kubiak as their next OC, ¹ú²úÍâÁ÷ÍøNetwork Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported on Sunday, per sources. Seattle later confirmed the news.
Kubiak joins Mike Macdonald's staff after spending the last year in the same role in New Orleans.
With no guarantee that the Saints' next head coach, who has yet to be hired after Dennis Allen's midseason firing, would keep him on staff, Kubiak has instead found a new home in the Pacific Northwest.
Kubiak also had an interview scheduled with the Cleveland Browns this hiring cycle, completing two interviews with the Seahawks before the sides came to an agreement.
This will be the third OC gig for the 37-year-old, who held the role in Minnesota for the 2021 season -- replacing his father, Super Bowl-winning coach Gary Kubiak -- before taking on the OC position in New Orleans this last season.
Kubiak's offensive unit struggled in 2024, though not without reason. After a hot start, injuries took hold, forcing the Saints to play without Derek Carr, Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and other key figures for significant portions of the season.
Chief among the decisions Kubiak will now be part of will be the direction to take the Seahawks offense going forward. Macdonald cited a difference of opinion in the unit's identity as reason for former OC Ryan Grubb's firing. Clearly Macdonald sees Kubiak meshing better with his preferred style, and the pair will hope to bring the Seahawks back up the rankings after finishing 18th in points scored and 14th in total yards while just missing the playoffs.
