It appears Russell Wilson will be staying in Seattle.
The Seahawks and their star quarterback have agreed to terms on a contract extension, Wilson tweeted early Tuesday morning. The team announced the signing on Tuesday afternoon.
Wilson posted a video on his Twitter account with wife Ciara, saying "Hey Seattle, we got a deal."
The new deal is for four years and $140 million, with $107 million guaranteed and includes a no-trade clause, according to 国产外流网Network Insider Ian Rapoport. At $35 million per year, the extension would make Wilson the highest-paid player in the NFL, surpassing Aaron Rodgers' deal with the Green Bay Packers.
"For me, for my family and for (agent) Mark (Rodgers), we love Seattle, and it's the place I want to be," Wilson said . "I've always wanted to be. When I first got drafted in 2012, I wanted to be here forever. This helps solidify that. I've got many more years to go and a lot more winning to do -- we've got more Super Bowls to win. I'm excited about that."
Wilson had imposed a Monday night deadline for reaching a new deal, with his agent negotiating in Seattle over the last few days. With the extension, the 30-year-old would be under contract through the 2023 season.
Under Wilson, the Seahawks are 75-36-1 in the regular season, reaching the playoffs in six of his seven seasons and winning the in 2014. The five-time Pro Bowler has averaged 28 touchdown passes a season, with a career 100.3 passer rating.
"We're all really pleased that we were able to take the next step to stay together and keep this moving," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said via the team site. "Russ has been a huge factor in everything that has happened, and this allows us to stay on track with continuing to push to find that consistency. Russell is a unique player, a unique competitor. It's rare the way he's just so consistently connected to competing and battling. To keep that factor as part of the program is just a real positive for our fans and for everyone. We're all fortunate to see this happen."
