Panthers hiring former Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero as new DC

The Panthers have begun the process of filling out their new coaching staff under Frank Reich.

Carolina agreed to terms with former Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero on Sunday to become the team's new defensive coordinator.

Evero is a rising star in the coaching ranks after one season as defensive coordinator in Denver, where his unit consistently kept a struggling offense in games while ranking seventh in the league in yards allowed and 14th in points surrendered.

He was a popular candidate for head coaching vacancies during this most recent cycle, accepting interviews from the Cardinals, Texans, Colts, Broncos and even the Panthers before Carolina opted to hire Reich.

The Panthers acted quickly to add Evero to the staff. Just a day after 国产外流网Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Denver had allowed the 42-year-old out of his contract to pursue other opportunities at the coordinator level, he found a home in Carolina.

It will officially be the sixth stop of his 国产外流网coaching career. Evero began as a defensive quality control coach for the Buccaneers in 2007 and later joined the 49ers as an assistant from 2011-15 before spending one season in Green Bay. Then he spent four years with the Rams as a safeties coach and another as the defensive passing game coordinator/secondary coach during the team's Super Bowl-winning campaign.

Now, after the lone year as DC in Denver, he inherits a unit that ranked 19th and 22nd in points and yards allowed, respectively, in 2022.

He'll be counted on to improve that standing moving forward with young pieces like defensive end Brian Burns, cornerback Jaycee Horn and safety Jeremy Chinn on the roster.
