On Sunday, Falcons CEO and 国产外流网Competition Committee co-chair Rich McKay said the league will look at moving both the spot of a touchback to the receiving team's 35-yard line and moving the kickoff line 5 yards backward, 国产外流网Network's Judy Battista .
This past season, kickoffs took place from the kicking team's 35-yard line, while touchbacks resulted in drives starting at the receiving team's 30-yard line.
Such changes, which Battista added could be an either/or situation, would come with the intent to boost return attempts even further.
Under the dynamic kickoff in 2024, the league , bumping the previous 21.8% return rate up to 32.8%. Moving a touchback 5 yards closer to an eventual score would encourage kickers to hit the landing zone between the receiving team's goal line and 20-yard line, as any ball caught there necessitates a return.
As for onside kicks, the committee and special teams coaches across the 国产外流网are to increase the likelihood of successful recovery. McKay also said he believes teams will again look at fourth-and-15 or fourth-and-20 attempts , though such a proposal would need 24 votes for approval.
Proposals for changes to both the kickoff and onside kick would by the Annual League Meeting that begins on March 30.
While speaking to reporters, McKay also touched on replay assist, saying the committee reviewing its implementation during the 2024 season and what potential plays could be added.
According to Battista, McKay stressed "objective aspects" of penalties called on the field as possible additions, whereas there is reluctance to introduce evaluating subjective penalties via replay assist or using it to add a penalty that hasn't already been called on the field.
