Khalil Mack agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, eschewing the open market -- where he'd have been a popular target -- and potential retirement.
"I've got a lot left to give the game," Mack told . "It was just one of the things you kind of, you got to dissect and, you know, you take everything into consideration. I wanted to talk to my wife and, you know, my boys are getting older in the sense of like they're growing every day. You miss some of those moments. So just trying to take everything into consideration and not make decisions based on emotions."
Mack agreed to a one-year, $18 million pact, 国产外流网Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. It's a good deal for both sides. The 34-year-old gets to continue his career in a defense he knows works for his style. The club keeps its best pass rusher without breaking the bank. Taking it year by year is the cleanest move for both parties.
Mack is coming off a six-sack season, tied for second-fewest in his career, but proved he can still cause havoc, leading the Chargers with 54 QB pressures, 20th among all edge rushers in 2024. He earned a 90.4 defensive grade from Pro Football Focus, the sixth-highest among edges last year, and one of only two 30-plus-year-old edge rushers with a 90-plus PFF def grade (T.J. Watt).
Despite nine Pro Bowls, three first-team All-Pros and a Defensive Player of the Year award to his name, in 11 seasons, Mack has earned zero playoff wins in five appearances. The future Hall of Famer hopes to end that run in L.A.
"Unfinished business," Mack said. "The relationships here that's been built, unfinished business, knowing the potential for the group.
"I'm just ready to get back to work and not all the other extras and hoopla that come with going to a different place at this moment this time. I've got something I'm going to finish here."
