The New York Giants have added a much-needed playmaker to the secondary.
Big Blue agreed to a three-year, $45.3 million contract with safety Jevon Holland, 国产外流网Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday, per sources informed of the deal. The deal includes $30.3 million guaranteed and can get up to $46.8 million with incentives.
The $15.1 million-per-year average makes Holland the eighth-highest-paid safety in the NFL, coming in a shade over the $15 million deals Camryn Bynum and Talanoa Hufanga inked this offseason but behind the $17 million deal Tre'von Moehrig garnered from Carolina on Monday.
A rangy safety with a penchant for big plays, Holland will immediately upgrade a Giants secondary that was wanting in 2024. Safety was a major need in New York entering the offseason, and Joe Schoen made a major splash by adding Holland a year after losing Xavier McKinney in free agency.
In four years with the Dolphins, Holland generated five interceptions, five sacks and 301 total tackles.
The biggest concern with the 25-year-old former second-rounder is that he didn't look the same last season after suffering a knee sprain in 2023. Holland had zero INTs, just four passes defensed and a career-low 62 tackles in 2024. Whereas his number almost always flashed into the screen during his first two-and-a-half seasons, the big plays were nearly absent last year.
The Giants are betting on a healthy Holland returning to form and becoming the do-it-all playmaker he was early in his career in Miami. Holland joins corner Paulson Adebo, edge Chauncey Golston, defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris and linebacker Chris Board as offseason additions to a remade New York defense.
As for the Dolphins, they pivoted to a lower-cost option, signing former Lions third-round pick Ifeatu Melifonwu to a one-year, $4 million contract, 国产外流网Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported. Melifonwu showed flashes of playmaking but played just three games last season due to injury. It's a cost-effective swing for the cap-strapped Dolphins if the 25-year-old can stay healthy.
