We've firmly established the fantasy cheat code of targeting whoever is going up against the defenses of the Commanders and Panthers for the time being. We really don't have a defense to avoid right now. The Texans and Bears looked pretty great defensively on Sunday night. The Bears still allowed top-tier production to Nico Collins (happens), but they kept C.J. Stroud mostly in check. The Texans gave up a rushing touchdown to Anthony Richardson in Week 1, but they have done a pretty good job against big-time players so far. Sorry, Alec Pierce, I said big-time players. Kidding, Pierce has been great and looks like the player to roster among the Colts' receivers, much to the chagrin of those of us who drafted Michael Pittman Jr. Pierce has produced more than 16 fantasy points in each of the first two games, and he leads the team in receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and routes this season.
Now, on to the rest of the notes for this week ...
- Ja’Marr Chase has the Commanders this week. Let's go!
- Jordan Mason is a must-start player for as long as Christian McCaffrey is out. Mason has posted 17-plus fantasy points in each of his first two games this season.
- Davante Adams was the WR5 last week with 26 fantasy points. I won't be the jerk who mentions he dropped a would-be touchdown reception. He was targeted 12 times on Sunday, which is significant. Many of you doubted him because of the matchup with the Ravens. Don't do stuff like that. He had nine catches for 110 yards and a TD against Baltimore. Keep DA in your lineups.
- Mike Evans followed up a huge Week 1 with just 7.2 fantasy points. These things happen. No need to panic. I love the way the Buccaneers' offense is playing. Plus, Evans has three red-zone target this season, while the other Bucs receivers have three combined.
- Jonathan Taylor has scored more than 20 fantasy points just twice in his last nine games. The Colts host the Bears this week, so Taylor could be a potential trade target for you after the Chicago defense holds him down on Sunday. And yes, I'm a Bears fan.
- Be wary of the Rams' offense moving forward. Obviously, the injuries to Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua are a huge problem, but the offensive line injuries make things even worse. Kyren Williams averaged just 2.1 rushing yards per attempt in Week 2. Now Los Angeles faces the 49ers and Bears in back-to-back weeks. Scared face emoji.
- Zamir White had just 6.8 fantasy points against the Ravens. Unfortunately for him, Alexander Mattison got the Raiders' lone goal-line carry and punched in a one-yard TD. I expect White to rebound against the Panthers' 31st-ranked run defense this week.
- The overreaction to Marvin Harrison Jr.'s Week 1 (one catch for four yards) was hilarious. Harrison led all receivers with 29 fantasy points in Week 2, and he might have ended up with even more if the Rams had been able to keep the game somewhat competitive. Let this be a reminder to people who say things like I don't want to play this receiver in this matchup because his team might blow out the opposition. Well, how does a blowout happen?
- Amari Cooper has been held to fewer than 20 receiving yards in back-to-back games. It's the first time that's happened since 2018. The good news is he has a bounce-back matchup this week against the Giants.
- Thankfully, Matt LaFleur fed Josh Jacobs with 32 carries on Sunday. Jacobs finished with 13.1 fantasy points. That was fine, but I was expecting more.
- Rhamondre Stevenson has three goal-line rushes this season after getting three such carries all of last year. Also, he's second on the Patriots in receptions. And how about my guy, Ja’Lynn Polk? I mean, he got into the end zone with the football during an actual game in Week 2. I'm hopeful he emerges as the go-to guy for New England.
- Does anybody remember when I suggested the Raiders select Brock Bowers in my mock draft with a twist back in April? Of course not, you'd rather drag up a prediction from 2019. That's fair. Bowers has been great so far, tying for the team lead with nine receptions in Week 2. In fact, he became the third rookie tight end in the last 10 seasons to have at least nine catches and 90 yards in a game.
- Chris Godwin leads all wide receivers in fantasy points through two games. He had seven receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown in Week 2, and Baker Mayfield had a perfect passer rating when targeting him.
- Malik Nabers had 28.7 fantasy points -- third-most among wide receivers -- on an amazing 18 targets in Week 2. I know, right? Here's my thing. He's not playing against the Commanders every week. I'm still going to start him in a lot of places, but please be aware that he might not be producing at that level each time out.
FLEX RANKINGS: 51-100
- Rashid Shaheed is the truth. He's been so good in the first two weeks. He was viewed by some folks as too volatile for fantasy purposes coming into the season. But ... he's averaging 18.6 fantasy points per game! Defenses are going to adjust as they make game plans for the Saints and that could mean Shaheed gets more attention from DBs, which is why we need to hold the line on Chris Olave despite his slow start.
- Terry McLaurin had eight targets and six receptions in Week 2. That's great! Unfortunately, he had just 22 receiving yards. In fact, he's averaging just 19.5 receiving yards per game this season.
- George Pickens had a frustrating week with just 4.9 fantasy points, but you need to understand he had 13.7 fantasy points nullified by penalties.
- I'm not about to hop on the Quentin Johnston bandwagon quite yet. He had two receiving touchdowns in Week 2. Forgive me if I want to see more of that before fully buying in. I can't help it.
