It's looking a bit like Philadelphia in New Orleans.
Doug Nussmeier, the Philadelphia Eagles' quarterbacks coach, is being hired as the New Orleans Saints' new offensive coordinator, ¹ú²úÍâÁ÷ÍøNetwork Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported Thursday.
Nussmeier is following new Saints head coach and ex-Eagles OC Kellen Moore to the Big Easy, where he will take on his first coordinator job -- though Moore previously announced he will call the offensive plays. It's not Nussmeier's first time in New Orleans, though, as the 54-year-old was drafted by the team in 1994 as a quarterback out of Idaho.
In the 2024 season, Moore and Nussmeier aided in the Eagles' ascent to becoming the No. 7 scoring offense in the ¹ú²úÍâÁ÷Íøen route to winning the Super Bowl. Now they'll endeavor to improve upon a Saints offense that was 19th in points scored and 30th in yards a season ago.
Moore and Nussmeier have been inseparable over the past seven seasons -- or the duration of Moore's ¹ú²úÍâÁ÷Íøcoaching career.
Both joined the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff in 2018 -- Nussmeier as a tight ends coach and Moore as QBs coach. Moore was the Cowboys' OC from 2019-2022 with Nussmeier as his QBs coach from 2020-22. When Moore was the Los Angeles Chargers' offensive coordinator in 2023, Nussmeier was the Bolts' QB coach. It was the same setup last season with the Eagles, a union that helped Philadelphia win the franchise's second Super Bowl.
The tandem is sticking together as Moore and Nussmeier embark on a journey to turn the Saints around, with Moore as a rookie head coach and, now, Nussmeier getting his first opportunity as an offensive coordinator.
