Charles Omenihu generated seven sacks in 2023, the third-most among Kansas City Chiefs players, despite playing in just 11 regular-season games. The edge rusher earned a sack of Lamar Jackson in the AFC Championship Game but tore his ACL shortly after, missing K.C.'s Super Bowl victory in Las Vegas.
Omenihu recently told that his recovery is going well.
"It's going good," Omenihu said Sunday at a youth football camp. "Slow process, everybody told me it was going to be like that, but it's been decent."
Players injured that late in the campaign generally miss at least the opening portion of the next season. Sometimes, a significant injury can wipe out the entire year or render a player less effective if he does return. Omenihu is optimistic that when he gets back, he'll be able to help the Chiefs with their quest for a three-peat.
"Honestly, right now, I'm steady, I'm cool," Omenihu said. "I got to be like this. I kind of keep myself like that, just stay plain, and we'll get to the point where I ramp it up like that."
The Chiefs are thin on the edge behind George Karlaftis, Michael Danna and Felix Anudike-Uzomah, so anything Omenihu can provide when or if he returns would be a boon to the group. It wouldn't be a surprise to see K.C. add another veteran at some point to provide depth, given Omenihu's recovery timeline.
