Bears hiring Dennis Allen as defensive coordinator, Declan Doyle as offensive coordinator

The Chicago Bears are adding dashes of experience and youth to first-year head coach Ben Johnson's staff.

The Bears are hiring former New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen as their next defensive coordinator and former Denver Broncos tight ends coach Declan Doyle as their offensive coordinator, ¹ú²úÍâÁ÷ÍøNetwork Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Sunday, per sources.

Allen, 52, most recently served as head coach of the Saints, from the start of the 2022 season until he was fired after the Saints' Week 9 loss. He also previously was a head coach with the Oakland Raiders from 2012 to 2014.

Allen twice was a defensive coordinator previously -- in 2011 with the Broncos and the Saints from 2015 to 2021. The Saints ranked in the top 10 in the ¹ú²úÍâÁ÷Íøin points and yards allowed in his final two seasons as DC and in his first as head coach in 2022.

Allen and Doyle, 28, served together on Sean Payton's Saints staff. Doyle followed Payton to Denver in 2023.

The Bears offense is still expected to largely be Johnson's design, with the new head coach having said he'll continue to call plays, but Doyle is considered an up-and-coming coaching star in the business.
